Police: Fight leads to death, suspect on the loose

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police said a fight behind a convenience store turned deadly and the suspect is on the run.

Metro said when they arrived to the store around 7:10 p.m. in the 4300 block of North Nellis Boulevard, they found the man, whose identity hasn't been released, dead in a bush.

Officers said it appears the altercation started when the suspect noticed the victim by his truck. He thought he was stealing from his vehicle, according to police.

Metro said witnesses told them the victim then took off into the desert behind the store, and the suspect followed him. Police said the suspect, whose identity is unknown, confronted and beat the victim, before grabbing a rock and hitting him with it.

According to witness statements to the police, the suspect and a woman then got into his truck and fled the area. The suspect is described as a Samoan or Hawaiian man, approximately 20 to 30 years of age. He was last seen wearing a green shirt, tan shorts, and flip-flops.

The identity of the victim, as well as the cause and manner of his death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

This is the 121st homicide investigated by the LVMPD Homicide Section.
