A dozen new cab medallions issued for EDC traffic

The Taxicab Authority allocated more cab medallions for the upcoming Electronic Daisy Carnival at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

According to the authority, the extra medallions, which are licenses that allow cabs to operate, were needed because the music festival is expected to bring in about 130,000 people each day of the three-day festival, which is up significantly from EDC 2013.

The three-day festival takes place June 20 through 22, but tickets were sold out shortly after they were released in March.

Each of the 16 cab companies registered to run in southern Nevada will be allowed 12 more medallions for each 12 hour period for Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the festival.

Unlike other events in Las Vegas, EDC takes place off the Las Vegas Strip and in the late-night and overnight hours. Many festival-goes must take a cab to get to the event.
