A Nellis-area park will show off its new upgrades Saturday at a grand reopening party.

New playground equipment and an improved and much larger water play area are among the amenities added to the Alexander Villas Park, 3620 Lincoln Road, where a celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The park is near the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard North and Lamb Boulevard.

There will be face painting, balloon artists, bounce houses and food at the free event. Representatives from the Clark County Commission District D Office, which oversees this area, will also be at the event.
The park renovations and upgrades included adding a soccer area, replacing playground equipment and remodeling the bathrooms. Landscaping was redone, new benches were added, water fountains were replaced and the once-small and concrete water play area was replaced with a large softer-surface water play area.

Alexander Villas Park was originally opened in 1985 and expanded in 2000. These recent improvements are the first in 12 years, and are both much-needed and welcomed by park users. The neighborhood park covers about 13 acres and includes basketball courts, picnic areas and softball fields, in addition to the new and renovated features.

Prior to construction, county officials met with community residents, including a group of children who often use the park, to solicit their suggestions on the renovation project.
