Flyball Tournament to Benefit Animal Organization

Flyball Tournament to Benefit Animal Organization

Fast-flying canines will be doing their best to win at an interesting competition going on this weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The dogs will be competing in the Fly’N Aces Need4Speed Flyball Tournament. The event starts at 7:45 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Nationwide Series garage in the superspeedway infield.

More than 300 dogs will be part of the Flyball event. The dogs will race from the starting line, jump over a line of hurdles, release a tennis ball from a spring-loaded box, grab the ball as it shoots in the air and then return the ball to their handlers.

The event will benefit the Greg Biffle Foundation. The foundation was started by NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and his wife to improve the well-being of animals. The event is free and open to the public.

In partnership with Benefit Wines, Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada is introducing their new line of charity wines - GOLDEN RESCUE RESERVE - a lineup of six estate-grown imported wines.

These wines are imported from Lontue Valley, Chile and Catalunya, Spain. A significant portion of the purchase price is donated to Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada in their continuing charitable efforts to provide veterinary care, food and temporary shelter for abandoned, mistreated, or unwanted golden retrievers and to locate people to provide permanent homes for these animals.

Charity Event Set to Help Pet Group Facing Foreclosure

Charity Event Set to Help Pet Group Facing Foreclosure

Henderson Restaurant Supply will partner with Adopt a Rescue Pet (ARP) on a silent auction and raffle fundraiser at 6 p.m. on April 28 at Tommy Rocker’s Mojave Beach Bar & Grill, 4275 Dean Martin Dr.

ARP has a $70,000 balloon payment due May 1, and proceeds from the event will assist in meeting the $70,000 obligation. Closure of the sanctuary would be disastrous to the approximately 300 pets in the ARP program that would be immediately displaced and may face euthanasia if not re-homed, not to mention pets that need placement in the future that might have nowhere to go. Any funds raised over and above the necessary $70,000 will be allocated to veterinary care for animals entering into ARP programs or awaiting medical sterilization prior to adoption.

Event organizers are seeking donated auction/raffle items for the event through April 26, including gift baskets, gift/product certificates and services.

Local Pet Rescue Group Faces Foreclosure

Local Pet Rescue Group Faces Foreclosure

One of Nevada's largest animal rescue shelters might have to close if it cannot raise sufficient money to avoid foreclosure on its Amargosa Valley dog sanctuary.

Adopt A Rescue Pet (ARP) has less than 45 days to raise $70,000 to pay off the pending balloon payment for its five-acre dog sanctuary in Amargosa Valley. Private foundation grant funding was to have provided the money in January, but when the foundation suddenly went defunct, the non-profit pet rescue organization found itself in trouble.

"We are deeply concerned about the future of pets in the Las Vegas area if we are not able to secure the funding necessary to keep our doors open," ARP Founder Elizabeth Rubin said.
