The first Nellis baby of 2012 made her debut Monday at the Nellis Air Force Base.

Randi Williams, daughter of U.S. Staff Sgt. Randy Williams and his wife, Cynthia Williams, was born at 1:41 p.m. at the Mike O'Callaghan Federal Hospital.

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada honored 34 Girl Scouts during its recent 2011 Young Women of Distinction ceremony at The Orleans Hotel & Casino.

The Gold Award is Girl Scouts highest earned honor, and is an opportunity for a girl to put her leadership skills, career interests, and personal values together to serve her community. Gold Award recipients:

Eastside Cannery "Lights It Up Blue" for Autism Awareness

The iconic Eastside Cannery building will attract even more attention on April 1st and 2nd, especially during the nighttime hours.  That's because the structure will be illuminated in blue. "Light It Up Blue" is a nationwide effort to encourage businesses and residences to light up their structures in blue light in recognition of those families affected by autism.  The Eastside Cannery, on Boulder Highway is able to change the colors displayed on the building quite easily.  There are roughly 16,000 LED lights on the exterior of the building which can be programmed to change colors or illuminate one particular shade of color.  The blue lights will be visual Friday, April 1st and Saturday April 2nd, which is World Autism Awareness Day.  Every 1 in 110 children is affected by the autism disorder.  More information on Light It Up Blue can be found at www.lightitupblue.org and www.autismspeaks.org.

 

Fundraiser for Christopher Pugh To Be Held Saturday

A memorial fundraiser will be held Saturday for Christopher Pugh, who died last week in a motorcycle accident.

A charity bike/car wash and barbecue will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at ATV Cycle Sports, 4440 E. Craig Road, near the intersection of Lamb and Craig. All proceeds will go to the Pugh family.

There will also be a BMX race at Nellis Track on Nellis and Craig at noon, and both the store and track will match any proceeds received. Donations can also be made to a PayPal account: ChrisPughMemorial@yahoo.com

A service will be held in Chris's memory at Sunset Park, Area A at 4 p.m.

Pugh, 24, was thrown from his bike in the accident and later died as a result of his injuries.
