People Urged to Use Vigilance Around Pools

The Clark County Fire Department is reminding everyone to be extra careful around water after four near-drownings.

In just the past two weeks four people almost drowned in unincorporated Clark County. Three of the cases involved children 5 years old and younger. The other involved a 25 year old. So far this year six people have drowned in the fire department's jurisdiction.

The Southern Nevada Health District is reminding people of the ABC and D's of water safety.

  • A         Adult supervision, it is recommended that a parent is within arm’s length when children are in a pool, bathtub or other water sources
  • B         Barriers to the pool, such as fences or gate alarms
  • C         Classes, such as swimming and CPR courses
  • D         Devices such as personal flotation devices, life jackets and rescue tools
