No Major Problems at Electronic Music Festival
Despite its reputation the Electric Daisy Carnival had very few incidents over its three days at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Over the whole weekend about 250,000 people attended the dance festival. There were arrests made but no major problems from a festival with a huge crowd. There had been concerns because of incidents at past events including the death of a 15-year-old girl at the festival held in Los Angeles last year. About 80,000 people attended the festival Sunday night but there were only 14 misdemeanor arrests, six felony arrests and one traffic citation."One of the biggest challenges was the large amount of people contained to one area and the second biggest challenge was the noise," said Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Public Information Officer Bill Cassel. "Our officers have to hear their radios. They have to be able to talk to people. They have to be able to talk to each other."The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has not said what impact the event had on the city's economy. They are still waiting to hear back from businesses and hotels. With thousands of people flooding the valley and very few troubles, the festival may become a fixture in the Las Vegas Valley
"We will be sitting down with our friends from Insomniac over the next few weeks and will be trying to make plans for another EDC in 2012 and beyond. Nothing is a slam dunk, certainly the promoter is going to look to this community to see how it likes the event and I think what he'll find is that the community loved the event," said Chris Powell the President of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. There is no word from Insomniac, the promoter of the festival, about its plans for EDC 2012 in Las Vegas.
