NHRA Racer Dies After Crash at the Speedway | News
A National Hot Rod Association racer who was hurt during a race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway has died.
Derek Sanchez, 47, of Yuma, Arizona died April 11. He was hurt during the summitracing.com Nationals at The Strip on April 6. According to the statement by the NHRA, Sanchez's 1933 Ford crashed at a high rate of speed at the top of the track during the second round of the Super Gas eliminations.
The Clark County Coroner's Office listed the cause of death as blunt force injuries to the head and torso. The manner of death is accident.
The NHRA and the speedway expressed their condolences in a statement released to 8 News NOW Thursday.
