Turkey for Troops Heading to Afghanistan | News
A local radio station wrapped its fundraising effort for troops serving overseas by packaging up the food it was able to buy.
KOMP 92.3 FM’s Turkey for the Troops started several weeks ago. The station was able raise enough money to provide an entire Thanksgiving feast.
"People are weary about the war effort and forget about the troops and want it over with. But the guys are still over there, and the girls are still over there. They still need us to take care of them and look out for them. We want to make sure they get a piece of home," Laurie Steele with KOMP 92.3 FM said.
The food was packaged Friday afternoon and taken to the post office where it will be shipped to members of the military serving in Afghanistan. The dinner needs to be sent a month early because that is how long it takes to get there. The station is still looking for a corporate sponsor to help pay for the shipping costs.
