Red Flag Includes South Korean Pilots in Training

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- South Korean pilots have been flying out of Nellis Air Force Base in their new F-15K fighter jets as part of a two-week exercise that teams up U.S. trainers and international allies.

Korean team commander Col. Jaehoon Yoon told reporters Wednesday that it's too difficult for pilots to practice dropping munitions on the tiny, populous Korean Peninsula.

The Nevada Test and Training Range's 2.9 million acres of land is the largest in the free world for practicing air combat during peacetime.

Yoon says his force's biggest challenge is guarding the coasts on either side of the peninsula. He says his fighters haven't yet had to ward off any North Korean aircraft.

The Red Flag training exercises began Jan. 23 and wrap up on Thursday.
