Drop Off the Kids and Have Some Fun

Drop Off the Kids and Have Some Fun

A little sanity for parents and a little fun for kids will be combined next week at a northeast-area recreation center.

Robert E. “Bob” Price Recreation Center’s Kids Nite Out and Holiday Pajama Jam is a one-night solution to the holiday craze. Parents can bring their children to the center, located at 2050 Bonnie Lane, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16 and venture out to complete the rest of their holiday shopping.

During the Holiday Pajama Jam for ages 3 to 5 years old  and Kids Nite Out for ages 6 to 12 years old, children will create crafts, play games and watch a movie. Dinner also will be served. Children should arrive in their pajamas, and younger children should bring a pillow and a blanket.

Because space is limited, registration is required by Wednesday, Dec. 14. Cost is $10 per child. Those interested can call Price Recreation Center at 455-7600.

Not Quite Newlyweds, Drivers Play Game for Fans

Not Quite Newlyweds, Drivers Play Game for Fans

They’re not exactly couples, but some of NASCAR’s top drivers will play a Newlywed Game-style contest starring its famous host.

The free event will be the first involving the 12 Chase drivers during this year’s FanFest celebration of the NASCAR Sprint Cup champion starting November 30.

“We think this is going to be the best event of Champion’s Week,” LVMS president Chris Powell said. “It not only gives the fans a chance to get close to the 12 top drivers in NASCAR, but it also allows the fans to see them in a much more relaxed environment without their fire suits and helmets.”

Bob Eubanks, the man who made The Newlywed Game famous and hosted variations of the show in six different decades, will be on hand to host the game show.

Nellis Gets Ready for Aviation Nation

Nellis Gets Ready for Aviation Nation

This weekend 70 years of American air power will be on display at the annual Aviation Nation at Nellis Air Force Base.

The two-day event opens the door on a world very few regular citizens know much about. More than 100 aircraft will be on display. People will be able to explore planes from the early days of aviation through to some of the most technically advanced aircraft currently used by the Air Force. Plus, the Thunderbirds will perform.

General admission to Aviation Nation is free. There will be a free round-trip shuttle bus from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway to Nellis Air Force Base. There will also be designated handicap parking and shuttle buses. Because of base security, vistiors will only be allowed access to the event through the Speedway shuttle system. People will not be allowed to walk onto the base.

The event includes an area for kids to play and community exhibits. Food, beverages and novelties will be available for purchase.

Races This Weekend at The Bullring

What’s being touted as the biggest race of the year at The Bullring arrives this weekend.

The Bullring, Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s NASCAR-sanctioned 3/8-mile asphalt oval, will host the annual Open Comp. The Fall Classic’s grand finale is Saturday’s 150-lap Super Late Model feature and the winner’s payoff has jumped from $7,777 to $10,000. Races begin today and run through Saturday, and a full schedule is available at the Speedway website listed below.

The Bullring’s annual finale routinely draws racers from California, Arizona and Colorado. Previous Open Comp winners include: Dustin Ash (2010), Justin Johnson (2009), Matt Jaskol (2008) and Taylor Barton (2007), all from Las Vegas.

The Open Comp’s $10,000 winner’s check has attracted entries from NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie Tyler Tanner of Rochester, Wash. and Colorado phenom Chris Eggleston. Eggleston recently won the 300-lap “The Race” at North Wilkesboro, N.C.
