Colorful Race Planned for the Speedway

Runners will get colorful at a charity race planned for this weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The Color Me Rad 5K benefits the Speedway Children's Charities, but it requires runners to be pelted with colorful powder.

The race starts at 9 a.m. Saturday. While running, people will be hit with "color bombs", which are a non-toxic mix of food coloring and corn starch. The race allows those who can't run to participate by hitting runners with color.

The money raised at the event will go towards children's charities. The Las Vegas Chapter of the Speedway Children's Charities granted more than $260,000 to 46 local children's causes last year.

Veterans and Families Get Sneak Preview of Aviation Nation

Veterans and Families Get Sneak Preview of Aviation Nation

Military personnel, their families and veterans got a sneak peek Friday of some of the spectacular aerial tricks everyone else will get a chance to see this weekend, during Aviation Nation at Nellis Air Force Base.

At Friday's Military Appreciation Day, families and veterans got a look at the demonstrations by the Thunderbirds. They were also allowed to get up close to a variety of aircraft flown by the Air Force, including a Black Hawk Helicopter.

Veterans say events like this one, and others planned for Veterans Day, always remind them of the nation's gratitude.

"It is always heartening to me when someone says thank you for your service. For the guys that came out of Vietnam that wasn't the case, and today it really makes you feel good," Retired Air Force Colonel Douglas Kodak said.
