Wounded Warriors Softball Team to Play in Las Vegas

 

What could be one of the most inspiring sports teams in the country is coming to southern Nevada to play softball.

The national Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team will be playing in Las Vegas Veterans Day weekend. The team is scheduled to play two games November 10. The first game will be at 11 a.m. The second will be at 1:30 p.m. Both games will be at Pinnacle Field in Summerlin, which is 2215 Thomas W. Ryan Boulevard.  They’ll be playing the Sun City Softball Team.

A meet and greet will follow the first game. Hot dogs, drinks and shade will be available.

Nellis Airmen Take on New Duty: Serving City’s Homeless

 

Nellis airmen return in a week and a half to feed more valley homeless.

It’s almost 7 p.m. on a scorching late-August Monday, and a line of homeless men and women stretches two blocks along G Street.

City, Base Personnel to Lead Cleanup Event

The City of North Las Vegas and Nellis Air Force Base active duty personnel are leading a community cleanup to clear out dumping areas and debris near the base grounds.

The cleanup starts at 8 a.m. Sunday. The group will work on an area bounded by East El Campo Grande Avenue, Linn Lane and North Sloan Lane, just outside the base’s main gate. This area has been a much-used dump site and is littered with broken glass and garbage.

Neighborhood stability and blight avoidance are the purposes of the cleanup. To join the effort, contact North Las Vegas Outreach Coordinator Kathi Thomas-Gibson at 633-5632.

Independence Day Fireworks Planned for LVMS

 

Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be the site of an Independence Day fireworks celebration this year.

The speedway’s annual “Night of Fire” takes place July 3, with gates opening at 5 p.m., racing at 7 p.m. and fireworks at 10:15 p.m. The night will feature NASCAR-sanctioned stock car racing (76-lap Super Late Model feature) and an appearance by legendary monster truck BIGFOOT. All hot dogs and Coke products will cost $1.

Free Dinner Cards Available for Miltiary Members

A local car dealership is helping thank the men and women who keep this country safe. Findlay North Volkswagen, 7500 Azure Drive, is giving away Thanks-A-Bunch dinner cards to active duty and retired members of the military.

The cards are worth $50 and can be used at the 200 restaurants within 10 miles of Nellis Air Force Base. The cards will be given away through Thursday. Members of the military can go to the dealership to get the cards.
