A group that helps military families reconnect after long deployments is getting a financial boost.

Horses4Heroes took to the skies over Fremont Street for a fundraiser at the Flightlinez zipline. The proceeds from each ride on the zipline between noon and midnight Thursday was donated to the nonprofit.

The group provides free and low-cost equestrian programs and activities designed to help service members, veterans and their families deal with the mental and physical issues that can surface after a long deployment.

"With 500,000 veterans coming home most of them, sad to say, have some sort of post traumatic stress disorder, PTSD, and horses are very good for that. Not everyone wants to take medication or go see a therapist, they just want to feel better with their situation and horses make that happen," Sydney Knott with Horses4Heros said.

Local bands also entertained the crowd during the fundraiser.
