UPDATE: Cheyenne High School lockdown lifted after student with gun detained

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Cheyenne High School was on lockdown for nearly two hours Thursday morning after a student was found with a gun, according to statements from school police and the school's principal.

A message sent to parents said, "Earlier today, CCSD Police officers detained a student on campus and found the student was in possession of a firearm. The school was placed on lockdown during the investigation."

Clark County School Police Lt. Brian Zink said the lockdown began around 9:45 a.m.

CCSD Police said details on the lockdown will be released later today.

Police activity was spotted in the area.

Cheyenne High School is located in North Las Vegas at Alexander Road and Simmons Street.
