Metro Police recommend several charges against Nevada Assemblyman Assefa |

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Metro Police are recommending several charges against Nevada Assemblyman Alexander Assefa, LVMPD confirms to 8 News Now. He resigned his position on the state legislature amid an investigation on his campaign finances.

The recommended charges are as follows:

• 1 count of residency requirement for candidate
• 2 counts of unlawful for candidate to make false statement
• 6 counts of perjury
• 2 counts of burglary
• 8 counts of offering false instrument for filing or record
• 4 counts of theft
• False statement to procure marriage license

The investigation prompted law enforcement to raid Assefa's home in May.

According to a news release from Governor Steve Sisolak's office earlier Tuesday, the office received a resignation from Assefa, who is a Democrat.

Assefa was first elected to the Assembly in Nov. 2018 and served in two regular sessions and two special sessions.

"The Governor's Office will process and submit a declaration of vacancy to the Clark County Commission which will appoint a successor to Assembly District 42, per statute," the news release stated.
