Police: Drowned Child in Pool for Hours

LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas police say the child who drowned in a pool on Sunday was in the water for several hours. Police are now investigating who was responsible for the child and have removed two other children from the home.

The drowning happened at a home near US-95 and Tropicana.

Throughout much of the day, family members have been coming and going from the house where two-year-old Geno Lenardo Valerio drowned. Police are now looking into who last saw the little boy alive in the home. The distraught family was seen removing what appeared to be toddler furniture from the home.

"They lost track of the child for sometime and it's believe the child was in the water for sometime," said Metro officer Marcus Martin.

After quite sometime, police say it was the boy's grandmother who found his body.

"By the time she was able to locate him, he was found in the pool and appeared to have been expired. She pulled him out of the pool," said Martin.

Neighbors say several people do live in the home.

"As far as I know there are at least minimal two families living in there at a minimum," he said.

He says they generally keep to themselves.

Metro's Abuse and Neglect Unit is now looking into if any charges may follow.

An autopsy was done Monday but the coroner's office says the exact cause of death will not be known until a few more weeks.
