Nellis Airman Dies in Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- The Air Force has announced that a Senior Airman assigned to Nellis Air Force Base has died in Afghanistan.

Senior Airman Michael J. Buras of Fitzgerald, Ga., died of wounds suffered during an improvised explosive device detonation.

According to a news release, Buras was assigned to the 99th Civil Engineer Squadron explosive ordnance disposal team at Nellis and already had a Purple Heart award from a previous deployment.

Two other Airmen were injured during the blast and are receiving medical care.

In a statement, 99th Civil Engineer Squadron commander Lt. Col. Mark McCloud said, "Airman Buras was a dedicated professional and a true patriot and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are also with our other two Airmen who were injured and are receiving care in the AOR."
