Cirque du Soleil's KÀ returning to the MGM Grand stage on Nov. 24

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- KÀ by Cirque du Soleil is returning to the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino on Wednesday, Nov. 24.

Combining acrobatic feats, Capoeira, puppetry, projections and martial arts, KÀ has been entertaining audiences on the Strip since 2004.

Tickets start at $69 are on sale now and can be purchased at cirquedusoleil.com/ka.

Cast and crew returned to rehearsals on Monday after the show closed its doors more than a year ago.

The cinematic production is the final Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas resident show to reopen this year.

NEW: COVID-19 cases plunge in Nevada, test positivity decline continues

Below is the full COVID-19 report for Oct. 12.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Nevada's daily count of COVID-19 cases plunged to levels last seen in early July, and the state's test positivity rate continued to drop in data released today.

With 621 new cases reported -- 452 in Clark County -- cases were more in line with levels before the summer spike, when counts were frequently double that number, and sometimes even higher.

Nevada's test positivity rate dropped from 8.2% to 8.1%, a slight drop but a continuing improvement that's worth noting. Clark County's test positivity increased late last week and has been at 7.0% so far this week.

Clark County's share of the total case count was higher: 72%. That's more in line with historic averages over the pandemic.

Cashless gambling comes to table games at Boyd's Aliante casino

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Table game players are getting a look at cashless gambling as Boyd Gaming tests out its new Boyd Pay Wallet at its Aliante casino.

Aristocrat Gaming and Boyd have launched a field test at Aliante Casino Hotel and Spa in partnership with Genesis Gaming.

The table games trial follows the previous introduction of cashless technology for slot players at Boyd Gaming properties in Nevada, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Ohio.

Boyd Pay Wallet will be integrated into Boyd Gaming’s B Connected app, allowing players to use their mobile device to fund table game wagers without withdrawing cash from an ATM or redeeming tickets and chips at the cage... Read More

Remains found near Black Mountain identified as missing local woman

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Skeletal remains found near Black Mountain have been positively identified as a 26-year-old Las Vegas valley woman who had been reported missing in December 2020.

Jawaher Hejji was reported missing on Dec. 25, 2020 after family members had not seen or heard from her in three days.

Henderson police found her vehicle near a construction site on Shaded Canyon Drive, south of Horizon Ridge Parkway. Surveillance video from the area showed her walking alone on the Amargosa Trail near the base of Black Mountain on Dec. 23.

Her family spoke with the 8 News Now I-Team in March desperate to find out what happened to her. They held out hope she would return home alive.

Her remains were found on Sept. 6.

Metro police said its missing person's investigation was closed. Henderson police said its investigation was ongoing. Police had no other information to provide... Read More

Elinor Otto of 'Rosie the Riveter' fame ready to celebrate 102nd birthday

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- She's 101 going on 102, and Elinor Otto isn't sitting still for her next birthday bash.

The last celebration was quiet in the midst of the pandemic, but for the woman known as the longest-working "Rosie the Riveter," pandemics aren't a once-in-a-lifetime event. She was born the same year the Spanish Flu struck.

And this year, she's headed back to Long Beach, California, where they're planning her party for Oct. 29, a Friday. Her birthday is a day ahead of that, on Oct. 28.

Her grand niece, Brenda Wynne, is working out the details and she says they're hoping for 250 people at the celebration. She's getting help from the owners of a Long Beach bar named for Otto. It's called Elinor Drinkery, and it's currently closed for on-site service... Read More

Man, 70, critically injured after being struck by shuttle bus

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A 70-year-old California man was critically injured after he was struck by a shuttle bus in downtown Las Vegas Tuesday evening.

The incident happened at 10:45 p.m. at the intersection of 1st Street and Ogden Avenue.

According to Metro police, the man was in a crosswalk on Ogden when he was hit by a shuttle bus making a left turn from 1st to Ogden. The 45-year-old driver stayed on the scene and didn't show signs of impairment.

The man was transported to University Medical Center for treatment.

What's Driving You Crazy? - Don't get used to having Eastern back open under the 95/515

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) - Don't get used to having Eastern Avenue back open under the U.S. Highway 95/I-515.

Yes, the 10-day closure of Eastern is scheduled to wrap up late tonight, but the Nevada Department of Transportation's i515project.com website says they'll be shutting it down again for six days starting Monday, Oct. 25.

At the same time, they're also scheduled to close Desert Inn again under the freeway between Boulder Highway and Flamingo Road.

Both closures are for the bridge demolition/replacements that are just part of the overall freeway fix-up project. The 95/515 itself will be open in both work areas while the streets underneath are shut down, although there will be lane restrictions... Read More
