Police suspect driver who crashed into swimming pool was impaired

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A driver is suspected of impairment after crashing through a block wall and ending up in a south Las Vegas valley home's swimming pool.

According to Metro police, the crash was reported around 2 a.m. on Bermuda Road, between Pebble Road and Windmill Lane.

Walmart, Best Buy, other retailers will be closed on Thanksgiving Day

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Earlier this week, Target and Walmart were some of the major retailers that announced they will not open on Thanksgiving Day for early Black Friday Shopping. Instead, retailers are spreading the deals out over an extended period.

UPDATE: Restaurant shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured in Summerlin, suspect remains at large

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Las Vegas police are looking for the suspect in a shooting that left one man dead and a woman critically injured at a Summerlin restaurant Tuesday night.

The shooting was reported around 7:49 p.m. in a strip mall at 10300 West Charleston Boulevard near Town Center Drive.

Metro police said the shooting appears to be "targeted" and the male suspect may have followed the victim inside the restaurant before shooting and killing him. The 40-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

An employee, a 48-year-old woman, was also shot. Police said she was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

There were no customers in the restaurant at the time of the shooting.

The suspect, who is described as a thin Black adult man, was wearing a dark sweatshirt, shorts, and a black baseball hat.

Former UFC fighter arrested, charged with battery after run-in with Caesars security

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Anthony Rocco Martin, a mixed martial arts fighter, was arrested Saturday morning after a Caesars Palace security guard was punched in the throat after trying to trespass Martin from the property.

Martin, 31, faces misdemeanor charges of battery and engaging in lewd/dissolute conduct in a public place.

Martin last fought professionally in June, 2020, and is ranked No. 50 as a welterweight, according to the website tapology.com. He is not ranked by the site rankingmma.com.

Metro police were called to Caesars at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday after security at Caesars took Martin into custody.

Update: Injured dog finds loving foster family to help in healing process

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- An update on the progress a four-legged friend is making after being found battered and abandoned.

Hercules, the dog was first found in an industrial area not far from the Las Vegas Strip beaten up and crippled.

The dog was also dealing with an infection, and it's suspected he was a bait dog because his ears were nearly chewed off, dehydrated, and underweight.

Volunteers at Vegas Pet Rescue Project took the dog to a pet hospital for treatment.

Now a foster family has taken in Hercules and not only given him a new start but a loving home to thrive in.

Deadly motorcycle crashes on the rise statewide; safety training offered to riders

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Motorcycle fatalities are up 32% from this same time last year in Nevada.

However, there is training to help drivers prepare before they head out on the roads.

Sarah Lee Is the owner of My Car Lady and she specializes in vehicle registration services and tells 8 News Now that this year she's registered about 500 motorcycles.

"There's a huge increase in motorcycle enthusiasts buying motorcycles, collecting classic motorcycles, all of them wanting to get out on the road, and some even also going off-road," said Lee.

The uptick came as a result of the pandemic but Lee can't help notice the rise in crashes, including deadly crashes.

"I've seen several crashes in the last couple weeks," she added. "These motorcycles go very fast and they sometimes don't anticipate the driver making a move in a certain direction."... Read More

Baby turtles rescued from illegal business on Las Vegas Strip adopted

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Baby turtles were being sold on the Las Vegas Strip by an illegal business, and 80 of them were rescued.

8NewsNow Reporter Victoria Saha visited the Animal Foundation where they were getting prepped for adoption.

The Animal foundation is usually filled with barks, but today they were busy taking care of creatures that hardly make a sound.

Tasha Crabtree, LVT, veterinary services manager at The Animal Foundation says, "As an open and take shelter, we see a bunch of crazy stuff, but getting 80 baby turtles at one time is definitely more rare."

Crabtree says they were found in a suitcase and noted that there was "deviation to the smoothness of their shell," which could indicate they were malnourished.

Shelby Nebeker and her sister planned on adopting one saying, "We have two in our backyard already so if we want another one especially a baby because they are so cute that would be so cool."... Read More
